Ette’s Hotel Chamomile

Recently, I received a surprise package from flyeetelfly, who sent over some chamomile tea because she heard I was cutting down on caffeine! I haven’t tried many Ette teas, so I was really excited for this.

From the product description, this tea is “a calming floral blend of roman chamomile, snow chrysanthemum and lavender blossoms. 100% caffeine-free. Helps in relaxation and alleviates insomnia.”

The recommended brewing time is 4 to 6 minutes and they recommend using 200ml of water for every 1.5 grams of tea.

To be honest, the first time I tasted this tea, as part of my supper, all I could taste was the chamomile. I’ve never thought of chamomile having a strong or dominant taste, so this was a bit of a surprise (and a letdown, to be honest, given the other ingredients). I suppose my taste buds are simply too uncultured to differentiate between the ingredients.

But to be fair to the tea, I decide to try it a second time. This time without anything to distract me. On the second tasting, I felt like I could taste the lavender mingling pleasantly with the taste of the chamomile. Still no hint of chrysanthemum, sadly.

Thank you so much for thinking of me, Ethel! I’m really happy to have a new source of herbal tea, especially since we’re running low on chamomile. I’m sorry my tastebuds can’t appreciate its full complexities!
