Devonshire Cream Tea @ Fosters

Last week, I finally had the chance to treat my parents to Fosters’ Devonshire Cream Tea set, which is something I’ve been wanting to do since I heard about their set. At $11.50++ per set, this is probably the cheapest (if not one of the cheapest) afternoon tea sets in Singapore.

My parents were really excited for this because we’ve all been missing scones since we came back from England!

One serving consists of:

– Two sandwiches: I don’t know if they change the flavours but we got cucumber and salmon. They were decent but not outstanding.
– A cake: Also decent but not outstanding
– Plain cones with cream, homemade strawberry jam, and butter: These were amazing! Probably the best scones that I’ve eaten in Singapore. The scones are extremely light with a great crust. And they had cream (although it wasn’t clotted cream) which went very well with the strawberry jam. One thing I wasn’t too happy about D Good Cafe’s lack of cream so I was happy to see this. Plus the scone sizes were pretty generous.

The tea was, sadly, like the finger foods: decent but not outstanding. I ordered the Ceylon tea and it turned out to be from Dilmah. But I suppose that I shouldn’t expect a speciality blend for the price. I did appreciate that they warmed the teacups and saucers, which helped to stop the tea from cooling too quickly.

Overall, we really enjoyed this. Since I was expecting a cream tea, anything other than scones was a pleasant add-on. While I definitely prefer the teas from the other afternoon tea places I’ve been, I will be coming back here for the scones.

2021 Update – Scones as good as I remembered

Devonshire Cream Tea for 2

So I went back to Fosters in April 2021 for more cream tea and the scones were as good as ever! They look a bit like rock cakes, but the scones were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (without being dry) and I still loved eating them. I wasn’t even annoyed that there wasn’t any clotted cream! Each set comes with 2 scones, one cake (ours was a warm piece of banana bread – delicious) and two small sandwiches (average – there was tomato and tuna).

I’d still go back to Fosters for scones.
