Yorkshire Tea’s Biscuit Brew

Ever since one of my friends in Britain sent me a picture of Yorkshire Tea’s Biscuit Brew, a tea that’s supposed to taste like tea and biscuits, I’ve been wanting to try it. Since I had relatives visiting England, I asked them to help me bring back:

FIVE BOXES.

This was definitely not intentional. I only wanted one box to try, but no one could find it in the supermarkets, which meant that I had to order it from Amazon. And this is how Amazon sold it.

Still, it looked pretty promising, with the packaging promising that it tastes like tea and biscuits. Since I was baking on 1st Jan, I decided that it would be the perfect time to try the tea.

Sadly, the first time I tried the tea, I didn’t get any biscuit taste. It was a fairly normal black tea, just a bit maltier and sweeter than usual. But when I reported that back to my friend, she told me that Yorkshire people tend to have their tea with a splash of milk and that I should try that.

I did, and this time, I could smell the biscuits. Taste, not so much.

But, the good thing about having five boxes is that I got to get a much bigger taste-test group than normal. I pushed the tea only everyone in my extended family and office and got mixed results. There were those like me, who didn’t really get the biscuit part but liked the taste. There were those who smelled biscuits immediately but didn’t taste it. And there was one friend who not only smelled the fragrance of biscuits but also tasted it (although she reported it wasn’t very strong).

Overall, I liked it. I am a bit disappointed that the biscuit taste isn’t as strong as I hoped, but it’s still a decent black tea that works as an everyday staple. I left a box of tea at my grandparent’s place and it is being brewed almost every day. The other teas I bring (and I bring a fair amount, to make the tea stash at home seem somewhat reasonable) don’t get drunk nearly as frequently. This is definitely an everyday tea that’s easy to reach for.

ETA: I have to eat my words. I opened up the box in the office (we rotate teas so I didn’t drink for about a week) and noticed two things:

  1. The smell of biscuits was very strong
  2. I could taste the biscuits in the tea.

And everyone I shared the pot of tea with agreed. I have no idea why this happened, but I hope the rest of the box tastes the same way.

  1. If you see it in the supermarket, you could give it a try; I have one friend who tasted biscuits! (And I like the tea as an everyday blend)

What do you think?
