Yet another new tea path

Yes, as if collecting vintage teaware isn’t enough (I’ve got my eye on a few things but I’m currently unable to decide which to prioritise :p), I’m starting something new.

Or I’m finally starting something new.

The world of tea is so huge that even if I concentrated on one area, it’ll take years to become an expert. But since I’m an amateur enthusiast, I prefer to follow the path I’m led down and just enjoy the journey. Besides, I’ve had these cute little matcha tea tins from Bird and Blend sitting in my cupboard since the June trip to England, and I’ve been procrastinating on trying them because I don’t have a matcha whisk.

Well, I realised I was letting perfect be the enemy of good, so I decided to just get a basic matcha set – whisk, stand, tea scoop – and start making it. I tried the ice cream matcha and I’ve probably made lots of mistakes (it took so long just to get this small amount of foam!) but I’ve finally started. I’ve been reading guides but there’s really no comparison to actually trying it out.

Since these are flavoured matcha tins, I’m not as worried about “messing” it up because I’ll just make them into matcha lattes!

If you have any tips or videos for making matcha that you particularly like, please let me know! When it comes to Japanese teas, I’ve always leaned towards senchas and gyokuros so I’m pretty unfamiliar with matcha. The most contact I’ve had with it was at a tea ceremony class, but I was the guest and not the host so I didn’t actually have to make the tea, just learn how to appreciate it.

P.s. for some reason I cannot upload my photos here no matter how many times I try (or reduce the file size). It is going to be on my Instagram, so I guess I’ll try embedding tomorrow!

What do you think?
