I always get excited when I receive tea so when I came home to this package from Em @ The Geeky Jock (she has an amazing book blog you should check out), it pretty much made my day. There were two teas and while both sounded amazing, Mysteaque had peppermint which I love. Plus, I was starting an Agatha Christie mystery novel and it seemed like an appropriate tea.
According to the envelope, this organic tea is made from peppermint, liquorice root, lemongrass, and calendula. Brewing directions were to steep 2-3g of tea for every cup, using boiling water and steeping for 3-5 minutes.
Loose leaves look great and the two ingredients that caught my attention are the lemongrass and peppermint. While I love peppermint tisanes and enjoy lemongrass, I wasn’t too sure about the combination. But the loose leaves smelled great so I was pretty excited to try it.
The tea liquor was yellow and like the loose leaves, the dominant notes were from the lemongrass and peppermint. The liquorice root and calendula were present mostly in the aftertaste, something that I found pleasant. I was very impressed with the flavour combination and really enjoyed the tea – I am definitely going to be reaching for this often.
I poured the tea into a white teacup for the pictures, but they were brewed in my new owl set (and the rest of the tea was drunk with the owl cups too)!
The owl teacups fit into my hands very comfortably and the pour from the teapot was great! I had my thumb on the lid because of habit but it was totally not necessary. The only thing to note is that because the owl teacups have no handles, they can get very hot when the tea has just been poured – probably best to wait a while before touching them. The lid of the pot also gets pretty hot so it’s best not to touch it just after steeping the tea, unless you’re making green teas and using a lower temperature.
I love both this tisane and the tea set! 2020 is definitely off to a very good start.
Those owl teacups are so adorable!
Thank you! I’m really enjoying them (:
Ahhhh! I was at a Japanese store yesterday and they had the owl mugs there!!! — and my silly, silly carry-on luggage is SO full there isn’t a hole in h-e-double-hockey-sticks of fitting the mug in it 😭
* hope in h-e-double-hockey-sticks … silly autocorrect
