Book Review: Anne’s House of Dreams by L.M. Montgomery

This is a long overdue continuation of me reading the Anne of Green Gables series. I suppose I have some issues continuing books after huge events (or just before) because the sheer excitement and anticipation backfires and makes me too nervous to read the book.

In Anne’s House of Dreams, Anne and Gilbert finally get married and have moved to be where Gilbert’s job is. They find a small house, perfectly suited to Anne’s romantic sensibilities, and settle down into married life. As with every move of Anne’s, she soon befriends people: Captain Jim, Miss Cornelia, and the beautiful Leslie.

To be honest, I found this book to be a bit more predictable compared to the others. I don’t know if it’s the long period between the books, but the minute I heard Leslie’s backstory, I pretty much knew what was going to happen next.

Although the plot was predictable, the story was still very charming. It’s quite amazing to be able to see Anne grow from a little girl into a mother and I teared up towards the end of the book.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. It’s another win for the Anne of Green Gables series for me.

  1. Although I’ve only read up to Anne of the Island, I adore Anne, the Cuthberts and the rest (I still find it sad about Matthew). Even so, the books have always been a source of comfort. I’m glad you enjoyed this book, and I hope to check it out soon (predictable backstories or storylines can be a bore but sometimes there’s some fun in how accurately you can predict it, if that makes sense? Although of course I’d rather not be able to predict anything in the first place)

    1. I cried when Matthew passed away. There’s still a lot of charm in the books so I hope you can continue reading about Anne as well!

What do you think?
