This is long overdue but this post is going to be all about my vintage teacups! I started buying them last October and it’s quickly become an addiction. Since I’m honestly loving them all so much, I’m okay with splashing out the cash for them. But beauty is best shared, so here is my collection:
This is going to be a picture-heavy and information-light post because I’m still very much a vintage teacup newbie.
I received two teacups and plate stands, which can hold two trios, but since I have more than four sets of tea trios, I had to find another place to store them. So the teacups (and the cake plates and the sugar and milk bowls/jug) are currently in a wicker basket with as much bubble wrap as I could save.
My blue collection:
The teacup on the left is the one that started it all! It’s also the first victim of my clumsy hands – I was taking it out one day and accidentally dropped it. Thankfully, it only chipped instead of shattered but it’s taking a lot for me not to start hunting down a perfect saucer to replace the chipped one. I’m trying to use this as a lesson that broken things are also worthy of love instead of immediate discard.
My pink collection:
The pink teacup on the right is also one of my first teacup trios and it has a slight crack. I suspect it’s because I used it with water that was a little too hot once.
My white collection:
I didn’t think I’d like gilt teacups until I saw the Queen Anne on the left and now I’m in love!
The “I haven’t found a name for this” collection:
These are my latest buys and they’re all mismatched trios! I started with the gorgeous green and gilt one, fell in love with the plates, and ended up picking up the teacups so that the plates wouldn’t be lonely.
I’m really enjoying having tea with these cups! So much that I’ve bought this to go with it:
The book translates to “The History of English Teacups” and it’s supposed to have lots of lovely illustrations as well! When I’m done, I’ll definitely do a recap of the book but I’m also tempted to start a mini-series on what I’ve learnt about my various teacups.
Recommended Teacup Stores
I’ve had a lot of lucky with my teacups so far – nothing has arrived damaged! If you’re in Singapore and you’re looking to start buying teacups, I recommend:
- Vintage Garden in the Tropics (Carousell)
- Angela Bloom Tearoom (Carousell)
- Tiny House Vintage UK (Etsy)
- The Vintage Tea Loft (Instagram)
All these sellers are extremely friendly and I found their pieces to be in great condition. I’ve picked up most of my teacups since most of them are based in Singapore, but if you need shipping, I was very impressed by how safely Tiny House Vintage UK packed everything.
Look at those beauties!! How are you displaying them?
They’re currently divided between a shelf in the cabinet and the wicker basket. Getting them a proper display area is something that I want to do in the future – I just need to find the right space in my home!
I completely glazed over the bubble wrap paragraph … the pictures were too enticing 😅🤩 They really need to be out looking pretty!!! Hopefully you work out a system soon.
Haha no worries, it was a very quick mention and easy to miss. Yup, hopefully I find a solution soon!
Ahhh omg your teacups are all so cute!
Buying them is becomming an addiction because they are too pretty!
I love your collection—they’re all so pretty 🤗! Please excuse me if this is a silly question haha, but do you use these teacups or are they purely decorative 🙂?
Not a silly question at all! Currently I use all my teacups, but I have one that’s starting to develop a crack (entirely my fault because I used too hot water when I first started out of ignorance) so I may stop using that for drinking
