After I baked the bath buns yesterday (pictures soon! I just have to write my review of the cookbook haha), the yearning to read Jane Austen was really strong, so once I finished Pollyanna, I switched to Austen. I actually wanted to read Northanger Abbey, but I realised that I did not have a copy of the book so I decided on Persuasion because I wanted something that was set in Bath (at least partly).
It is, however, doing my self-esteem no good to realise that Anne Elliot, at the age of 27, is the oldest of Jane’s protagonists and considered a confirmed spinster at her age. I’m 27 this year!
Apart from that reminder of how much things have changed, I’m enjoying the novel. Work carried on until the evening today, so I’ve only had a couple of hours to read. But it’ll be silly for me to rush myself so I’m going to continue leisurely reading and enjoying Persuasion.
On a slightly different note, now that I realised I am missing Northanger Abbey, I’m very tempted to buy a copy! I looked things up on book depository and found two editions that seem nice (to the eye and to the wallet):
The portrait one seems pretty cute but the other one has an introduction by P.D. James so I’m super torn. Anyone have any thoughts?
Tea of the Day
Found some Korean tea in the tea cupboard/stack and decided to try it! It says burdock and lotus root and I really like burdock chips so I was pretty excited! This ended up tasting a lot like Arinobu’s mugicha though – there was a rice note in the fragrance and then a very sweet grain note in the tea (a bit like genmaicha as well!). It’s not exactly like how I remember burdock but it was the perfect post-dinner tea.
Spinster at age 27? I don’t think so. You have your whole life ahead of you. Don’t be in a hurry. Enjoy the ride!
Haha it’s a good thing times have changed! Thanks for the encouragement, Warren (:
