I am slowly getting back into the rhythm of working (albeit with a reduced workload) and reading at the same time! I managed to finish Persuasion this morning and even had the time to ask Instagram which book I should read next. Unfortunately, it was a tie when I wanted to start something new so I picked up Sense and Sensibility because I don’t remember it as well as Emma.
Speaking of Persuasion – I wrote a book review for it (again). I was wondering if it’s going to be too much Austen with me talking about it for two days + a review but I decided that I like the structure that writing a review gives me (and the fact it forces me to think more about the book) so I’m going to try that for now!
As for Sense and Sensibility, it turned out to be a pretty good read to follow Persuasion because in Chapter 8, we have this wonderful line:
“A woman of seven and twenty,” said Marianne, after pausing a moment, “can never hope to feel or inspire affection again, and if her home be uncomfortable or her fortune small, I can suppose that she might bring herself to submit to the offices of a nurse, for the sake of the provision and security of a wife.”
Can anyone tell me if someone has written a JAFF where Marianne as she is in the beginning of the novel and Anne Elliot meet? Because I would honestly love to read that!
Marianne feels so young right now! I actually really like Elinor because I completely get her self-control, although I suppose if you met me in real life, you might not think that I have any. I’ve only just finished the part where Marianne meets Willoughby and I am starting to remember how it ends so I’m excited to continue reading tonight and tomorrow!
