Tea Review: Thé Marie-Antoinette by Ladurée

Today’s review is a short little review, mostly because this is a birthday gift from my family and I want to just write down my thoughts on it so I don’t forget what I received!

I received this tea plus some honey, salted caramel, and a box of macarons for my birthday! The Thé Marie-Antoinette is described like this on its product page:

“An elegant combination of Chinese black tea, citrus fruits, floral notes, light spices and vanilla. A delicious, sumptuous and delicate blend. The Ladurée signature.”

Those are a lot of flavours, but for me the strongest note in here is citrus. In fact, I thought that this was an Earl Grey tea at first because the citrus is pretty much similar to bergamot and it’s really, really strong. I could smell this tea even before I opened the tin (right now, the tea is sitting away from the other plain teas, because I don’t want the scent to be infused with the other teas).

Because the dry leaves were already so strong, and because I’m steeping all my teas in a gaiwan right now, I decided to go for a short infusion time, about 45 seconds. Even though that’s far shorter than the five minutes that was recommended, the tea was still delicious. The citrus notes weren’t in your face, as I worried they would be. Instead, they blended well with the black tea and went perfectly with the macarons. I shared this with my roommate and she really enjoyed it, so I think this would be a good tea to bring out when there’s company.

The macarons are more or less gone now, but there’s still a lot of tea left. That, however, should not be a problem because it’s just so easy to reach for this tea! I think it’ll be easy to finish it!
