I tried painting on toast!

Yes, this post is going to be as weird as the title sounds.

I was looking for things to do over the new year’s break and I heard about the Forever Twenty Cafe in Johor. Since I was already planning to go to Malaysia a little early for work, going for this cafe sounded like a fun idea. After all, as a non-arty person, I don’t really need to make art to keep. Making art to eat works just as well for me.

The toast painting set must be booked and paid for in advance (I booked on Instagram). One set consists of 4 or 6 “paints” and 4 slices of toast, which is enough for two people. A 4-paint set costs RM24 and a 6-paint set costs RM28. Since I was going with my family, so I got a couple of the 6-paint sets.

For picky eaters, you might want to be aware that all the ‘paints’ are made from yoghurt. This means all the paints have the same consistency and there won’t be flavour clashes, but it also means that your bread will taste like yoghurt. So if you’re not a fan, you may have to bring a friend who does along. If you don’t want to eat bread, they have fries (unsalted when we were there) and nuggets, as well as a small drinks menu.

The cafe itself is located on the second floor in a small development off Tebrau (it’s very close to Aeon Tebrau). The outside looks pretty unassuming, but the interior of the cafe is bright and airy. We went around 11am and had the whole place to ourselves until about 12 or so.

The actual toast painting itself was a quick activity. I think we finished around 11:40 or so? But we hung around for a bit more to just relax before heading out for lunch. I think if you plan to spend more time here, it would be good to go after breakfast or lunch and to plan for another activity besides toast painting. Other activities available include art jamming, ceramic painting, and creating accessories and decorating phone cases.

Honestly, I found this really cute! I would definitely be down to go back with friends.
