Tea Review: Fortnum & Mason’s Sparkling Tea

I had a few expiring miles recently and instead of letting them go to waste, I decided to convert them into tea! There weren’t too many tea choices so I ended up getting Fortnum & Mason’s Sparkling Tea. It’s a blend of white, green, and black teas and comes with this impressive description:

The latest evolution in our 314-year tea history, our Sparkling Tea is a certified organic blend of eight of our famous and rare brews – and despite its celebration-ready appearance, contains zero alcohol. With complex flavours and remarkable layers, notes of tropical fruits on the nose precede a palate of lemongrass, water mint and Darjeeling, leading into drier tannins and a long-lasting hint of jasmine on the finish.

I had to admit – this tea looked very nice. The bottle was fancy and thankfully pretty easy to open – all I had to do was untwist the metal cap and uncork it. Just one note: the bottle is not resealable unless you have your own reusable bottle stoppers so you might only want to take this out when you plan to finish it.

This tea is apparently a blend of eight teas and juices (it’s not in the description but it is in the ingredient list). It pretty much looks like sparkling juice. Unfortunately, it also tastes like sparkling juice – I couldn’t taste the tea at all! It’s a pleasant juice blend but I’m not sure I would have recognised it was tea.

As a test, I got my boyfriend to try the tea and as someone who normally avoids tea, he pronounced this “something I can drink”. Which for me was confirmation that there are no tea notes.

So while this isn’t the sparkling tea drink I hoped it would be, it is a nice, fancy-looking, non-alcoholic drink. It also comes with 150mg caffeine per litre so do be careful if you’re sensitive to caffeine and drinking this late in the day!

  1. Wow—pretty sad that the taste came nowhere close to the fancy description! I’d be rather peeved if I’d spent a decent amount of money for it.

    1. Yeah! Luckily I didn’t even pay for the shipping! I did wonder if it’s a problem with my tastebuds but I do think that in general, once you add juice it would be quite hard to taste the notes of the individual tea (especially given how many they blended).

What do you think?
