I haven’t been posting this week because I started part-time work and have been drinking the same few teas (since I haven’t figured out how to brew loose leaf tea in the office). But, I did pick up a new tea at Cafe Asia 2018 last week and managed to try it!
The Teapigs Booth:
To be honest, I was attracted to the booth because of the posters, like this one on how to figure out what tea you should be drinking:
While I would have liked to buy a couple of teas to try, budget and space constraints, I only got one – the Snooze tea (since I’m looking for more herbal teas for the night). It was pretty nice to know that the tea bags, or ‘tea temples’, are biodegradable!
This is the description of the tea:
“Put down that phone, switch off your laptop, sit down, feet up, breath deep, close your eyes…. What?!!? No time for all that pre-bed relaxation? Then put on the kettle and enjoy this yummy blend of apple, lavender and chamomile, known to help maintain a healthy sleep. Light, a little sweet and flowery. Off to sleep you go. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.”
It’s a very appealing description since I’ve been having trouble sleeping. According to the official page, this tastes “[f]ancy. Sweet apple, light lavender and a flowery hint.“
The recommended brewing time is 3+ minutes using boiling water.
First impressions
To be honest, I wasn’t very impressed. The tea was pale yellow and smelled very strongly of lavender, which is good, but the taste was a bit strange. It tasted like lavender but the apple added a slightly sour note that I didn’t like. I was expecting something more like Ette’s Hotel Chamomile, but with a stronger lavender note so the apple threw me off.
Second impressions
I liked it better the second time I tried it, and if this goes on, I’ll be quite fond of the tea by the time I finish the box. The flavours seemed to blend together better, although I’m still not a fan of the apple inside.
Overall, this wasn’t a very positive introduction to teapigs. But so far, friends in the UK have spoken really positively of teapigs, and I did smell some really good teas, so I’m still interested in trying out other flavours. If you have a favourite from them, let me know!
