Sonbérnor (松柏農) Jasmine Green Tea (Drip Tea)

When I met Ethel about two weeks ago, she gave me a bunch of teas from her recent travels, including this Taiwanese drip tea from Sonbérnor (松柏農)!

I was super excited about these teas because I’ve never even thought of applying the concept of drip coffee to tea. The pack is filled with individual tea bags, all of which look like this:

Tear open the packet and ‘hang’ it from a cup:

(I brought this to the office and we learned the hard way that you can use a cup that’s too big because the bag will just fall in.)

After that, just pour hot water in. Unfortunately, this isn’t a very convenient way of making tea because the water takes some time to drip down and if you want a full cup, you’ll have to keep adding water.

The finished cup of tea!

If I were to sum up this tea in two words, it’s “very jasmine”. While it wasn’t overly sweet like the Jasmine green tea here in Singapore, the scent and flavour of jasmine definitely overpowers the green tea. But more importantly, the tea takes quite a long time to prepare, which means that it’s hard to get a cup of hot tea – I’ve made it twice and both times, I only got a cup of lukewarm tea.

This is definitely a cool concept, but I don’t think I’ll want to drink this on a regular basis. It would be cool to bring this out for friends, though. Especially since my friends and I tend to talk a lot, so we have the time to wait for this tea to be made.
