I only had about a day and a half in Ljubljana, but that was enough for two excellent meals and a tour (review of the tour coming soon). And since I’m still writing the next sustainabiliTEA post, I wanted to just talk about the really good food that I had there!
Monstera Bistro
This was a restaurant that one of my friends found and it was really good! If I’m not wrong, my friend this found this through the Michelin site because this is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant.
We managed to book a table for lunch and I had the two-course set for €23. The creamy onion soup was honestly the best I’ve had so far (don’t tell the French!) and I loved that the profiteroles that were in the soup were filled with cheese. Likewise, the beef cheeks were fantastic – absolutely tender and the vegetables were roasted to perfection.
Here’s the Monstera Bistro website if you’re interested in checking it out. Apparently, reservations are recommended for this place!
Restaurant Manna
This was recommended to me by a friend, who described the food there as “best meal we had in Europe”. I don’t know if this is the best food in Europe, but it was definitely excellent!
We got the three-course set for €21. For the three-course set, the selection is a bit more limited so I got a fish-based meal. Everything was so good though – from the marinated canastrels (I’m actually not sure what a canastrel is but it’s a fish, I’m pretty sure of that) with light, crispy vegetables on top to the white chocolate with salted strawberry dessert. We were afraid that the portion size was on the small side, but thankfully, all of us walked out of the restaurant feeling full.
From what I understood, it’s much cheaper to go to Manna for lunch; the three-course menu at Manna isn’t available after 4pm, and the four-course menu costs €43, which is a huge jump.
If you’re ever in Ljubljana, do give these restaurants a try! I’m getting hungry just thinking of these meals!
wow this looks delicious!!
They were! And pretty reasonably priced too!
