June ’23 Rereading: Day 28 – Infused (Part 1)

When I finished reading The Age of Innocence yesterday, I was a bit worried about what I was going to read next because I had planned on taking longer to read it and finding my next book in Singapore. But luckily for me, my hold on Infused by Henrietta Lovell (which I made earlier this month and never thought would receive in June) came through for me and I managed to borrow and download the book!

Infused is one of my favourite tea books (review here), and for some reason, I’ve not bought a copy even though I’ve been meaning to! And even though I buy teas from Rare Tea Company (and even did a SustainabiliTEA profile on them) because of this book. Someone please remind me to get a physical copy of this book soon.

Anyway, I really enjoyed infused because of the way Henrietta combined information about tea with her personal story about tea. Plus, she talks about teas so beautifully and she makes me want to have a bunch of black teas at home to experiment with because look at her ideas:

“If I’m having scrambled eggs, I like a high Himalayan tea with a tiny pinch of Lapsang Souchong. I put a poon of Earl Grey into the blend, in place of Lapsang, when I’m having toast with honey. For booiled eggs and soldiers, I like a fifty-fifty blend of two Chinese black teas, Keemun and Emperor’s breakfast. When it’s carefully combined, using great teas, English brakfast can be a tea of great beauty.”

I’ve never had earl grey with toast and honey but somehow that sounds amazing to me.

Given that I’ve only finished five chapters thus far (busy day), I don’t have much to say about Infused… yet. So I’ll sign off here and get back to reading.

What do you think?
