Visiting Meert’s Tearoom in Lille

Here is something else that I forgot to talk about!! When I met up with one of my friends in Lille, we decided to go to a tearoom. And you know how I love tearooms. But anyway, this post is less of a review and more of a “I went there” type of post because I took no notes, only photos.

Hidden behind some impressive shop windows, Meert’s tearoom serves both sweet and savoury food. We weren’t too hungry that day so we just got the sweets.

Everything is served in such an elegant fashion! I didn’t expect them to give us a small piece of chocolate to go with the tea.

For the cakes, I got the October special, which if I remember correctly was a raspberry cake in as part of awareness of breast cancer awareness month. The cake was a lovely surprise – so light and moreish! I really, really enjoyed this one and I could have probably eaten two if I wanted!

I also ordered their famous waffles but I’m not sure that I enjoyed them as much. The vanilla filling was nice but nothing to sing about and the waffles looked like biscuits but were quite soft. I suppose it’s because I never looked up the waffles beforehand so I wasn’t sure what to expect?

Mini Tea Review – Thé de la Parisienne

The tea was called thé de la Parisienne and was so good I brought home a packet! This was the only tea I bought on the trip, so no worries. The dry leaves here were very small and fine and the tea has a rich malty smell. It reminds me of the zhenshang xiaozhong that I had in China – very sweet, very rich black tea that’s perfect by itself. It can hold its own against rich foods as well; it’s a beautiful, easy-to-drink tea.

To be honest, I wish I spent more time here. We visited the tearoom the day of our convocation so all we had was a light snack, but I would love to come back for a more substantial meal one day (if I ever go back to Lille). It seems like the food here is pretty good!
