Given that I’ve previously raved about the Ami Patisserie omakase and really enjoyed the afternoon tea at Fullerton, I really felt the need to record down this trip for the Ami Patisserie x Fullerton collaboration afternoon tea even though it’s over!
Our afternoon tea for Aki had a rather bumpy start when the hotel couldn’t find our reservation! As it turns out, this was a mistake on our parts, because we put in the wrong month in the booking! Thankfully, Natty, the staff who attended to us, was extremely kind and helped us to get a seat even though it was our fault.

This afternoon tea comes with one “snack” (miso and eggplant madeleine), four savouries, one bread (it’s a kinako and matcha tropézienne* with yuzu jam but the server helped us understand what that was by saying “it’s a matcha bun”), four desserts, and one plated dessert (mango sticky rice which was basically mango sago) and a mocktail. While we didn’t think it was a lot of food at first glance, we were proven wrong and were full by the end (this is such a common occurrence for us by now that I don’t know why I still fall for this!)

Overall, everything was very good! I think the only thing I wasn’t raving about was the miso and eggplant madeleine, which was on the dry side, plus I wasn’t a fan of that flavour combination (I also wasn’t a fan of the eggplant creme brulée during the omakase, come to think of it). My favourites were:
- Smoked Salmon Tarte – flaky and crispy tarte shells with a generous helping of smoked salmon, yum! Perfectly executed!
- Caviar Chou – as good as I remembered it
- Tomato Tartlette – very good cheese biscuit. The tomatos are not as great as at Ami’s but still very good
- Black Forest Choux – very rich, so in retrospect a good thing that it’s not very big!
- Strawberry Pistachio Tart – I loved the tart crusts here! And I always love a good strawberry tart.
I think the things I liked were the things that had a more conventional flavour profile but were just executed so well. The more adventurous things, like the Caramel Banana Mousse and the madeleine, weren’t for me. For the mousse, it was because there was this third note that was not caramel or banana, but probably passionfruit, that confused both of us. I appreciated what he tried to do, but despite the fact that I like both bananas and caramel, this didn’t hit the spot – probably if it was closer to the way banana pudding/banana pie tastes, I would like it more!
Overall, this was a really great afternoon tea with lots of standout dishes. It’s also good value for money, if you consider how much the Ami omakase typically costs. That said, I would still want to bring my husband to the omakase one day because it was just so good (and also because this afternoon tea is over) and because I felt that generally, Ami manages to source better quality ingredients and that helped make the experience there even better.
*If you want to know what a Tropézienne actually is, Wikipedia gave a good description: “Tarte tropézienne, also known as “la tarte de Saint-Tropez”, is a dessert pastry consisting of a halved brioche filled with a mix of two creams, thick pastry cream (crème pâtissière) and buttercream, and topped with pearl sugar” and you know what? That’s exactly what we had!
I’m so glad they were able to accommodate you! It all looks fantastic
Thank you! It was really great!
