I have never really been into journalling, but a side effect of getting on the more visual side of the internet (i.e. Instagram) is that I am filled with the urge to fill in all those unused notebooks prettily. While I’m still working on finding a way to make a physical book journal work for me, I am totally in love with my little tea journal right now. Here are the three reasons why I think tea journals are great:
Helps you preserve cute teabags
If you were with me when I opened The Book of Tea and the Karel Capek tea box, you would have known that the first few days after were filled with lots of indecision about what to do with all the cute teabags! I used a lot as bookmarks but that meant that I had to slow my reading down to match the tea, and the teabags would invariably get lost, etc etc
My mini tea journal is the perfect size to keep one teabag case and write down a few lines about my thoughts on the tea. It makes me really happy to just flip through the pages and see the different teas that I’ve made.
Keeping Track of Teas Drunk
Now we’re on to a slightly more serious reason for a tea journal. I used to put everything in Notes document and then transfer it to this blog, but because I also blog about books (and sometimes other stuff), it can be a bit troublesome to look for a particular book review. A physical tea journal helps me to keep track of everything that I’ve drunk + I can separate it by page (as opposed to putting it in one document, which is unwieldy, or many, many documents, which is digital clutter) so it’s much easier to use.
I can actually see this journal being very useful when I started getting into tea – and for recording notes about workshops that I went!
One More Outlet for Creativity
I am not a very creative person when it comes to things like drawing, So the idea of jumping into a full-fledged bullet journal and drawing monthly covers and all that was intimidating. Starting small, with a tea journal and cute teabag covers (and washi tapes) is a good way for me to ease myself into the whole journalling thing. I’m finding that I really enjoy the process and I’m so relieved that I’m finally using the notebooks that I bought!
As you can see, two out of the three reasons why I advocate for keeping a tea journal doesn’t have that much to do with tea (so you can apply this to just about any hobby). But if you drink tea, or you’re thinking of getting into tea, I’d definitely recommend keeping a paper journal about the teas that you’re trying. It’s a good way to track what you like or don’t like, and one more creative outlet is always good to have, in my opinion.
I love this so so much! Journaling is always such a great idea!
Thank you! Yes, I agree! There’s something different about writing it on paper vs writing it on the computer!
