Everything to do with books! Mostly book reviews, but occasionally, I have the non-review bookish post too.
“You do not write your life with words, the monster said. You write it with actions. What you think is not important. It is only important what you do.” A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness Friends, this book was SO GOOD! I was crying at the end of A Monster Calls, which was not ideal… Read More Book Review: A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
I’ve been meaning to read something by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Notes on Grief sounded very interesting. Well, this short book (well, it’s more like an essay) has made me want to read more of her work! “I finally understand why people get tattoos of those they have lost. The need to proclaim not merely… Read More Book Review: Notes on Grief by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
I was looking through my Overdrive wishlist when I found this! A true crime story plus author biography mashup sounded interesting, especially since I enjoyed The Man Who Would Be Sherlock. In The Beautiful Cigar Girl, Stashower takes the reader through the murder of Mary Rogers and the literary career of Edgar Allen Poe. Mary… Read More Book Review: The Beautiful Cigar Girl by Daniel Stashower
I’ve never read any Armenian-inspired fantasy – in fact, I can’t remember if I’ve ever read any fiction set in/inspired by Armenia! So when I heard about Rise of the Phoenix, which is basically epic fantasy but set in a world inspired by the culture and history of Armenia, I was immediately intrigued. Rise of… Read More Book Review: Rise of the Phoenix by T. Isajanyan
I’ve had Invisible Women on my TBR list ever since I saw Briana’s review of the book at Pages Unbound, but I’ve postponed reading it for the longest time because I just knew I was going to be angry while reading and I was right. After reading chapter one while waiting for a bus, I… Read More Book Review: Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez
This book has been on my TBR list for a really long time, but somehow I never picked it up until now, when I was craving for a quick and easy read. Archibald and the Blue Blood Conspiracy is a mystery set in a boarding school. Shortly before the new term starts, Archibald, the second… Read More Book Review: Archibald and the Blue Blood Conspiracy by Shermay Loh
Nature-writing? Yes! History? Yes! A History of Nature? Where do I start reading? That’s basically my thought process when I saw The Wood That Built London on Netgalley. The Wood That Built London is a history of the North Wood, starting from prehistoric times all the way to the present day. As you can imagine,… Read More Book Review: The Wood That Built London by C. I found this book on NetGalley, and even though I read more manga than graphic novels, I requested it because of its subject matter. I’m fascinated by True Crime, and the fact that it was subtitled as a “memoir of a true-crime obsession” made me think it would be a cross between Gone at Midnight… Read More Book Review: Murder Book by Hilary Fitzgerald Campbell
I’ve been following Tim Harford’s blog and I realised it’s been some time since I read one of his books. So I checked out one of his older books from the library and had a fun time revising the main topics of macroeconomic theory. Written in a conversational style, The Undercover Economist Strikes Back provides… Read More Book Review: The Undercover Economist Strikes Back by Tim Harford
Abi of Pellinor tagged me in the End of Year Book Tag and it looked nice and short (and unintimidating) so I decided to give it a go! Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish? Nope! I finished rereading The Tale of Genji in July (I’m honestly still really… Read More End of Year Book Tag
