My second book tag and the first one where I was actually tagged!!! I was tagged by Brittany from Perfectly Tolerable and I am so excited to talk about fantasy (although I haven’t been reading as much recently). This tag was first created by Jo from The Bookworm Dreamer.
The Rules
- Thank the person who tagged you and link back to their post
- Link to the creator’s blog (thebookwormdreamer.wordpress.com) in your post
- Answer the prompts below – all fantasy books!
- Tag 5 others to take part
- Enjoy!
Since this is a quick fire tag, I’m just going to list the book or books that come to mind when I read the prompts.
5 Star
Two books came to mind immediately! Uprooted by Naomi Novik, which I love because of the strong friendships and the interesting take on the dragon who abducts women. I also really enjoyed Midnight Never Come by Marie Brennan, which was gorgeously written book with two worlds – Elizabethan England and a faerie realm underground.
Always going to recommend
I’ve recommended The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden to countless people. If they say that they’re looking for a book and they indicate even the slightest interest in fantasy and/or folklore, I will straightaway tell them to read this.
Own it but haven’t read it
Sadly, I don’t think I have any in this category! I tend to read the fantasy books I buy pretty quickly.
Would read again
I really enjoyed The Once and Future King by T.H. White, which is a retelling of the Arthurian legends. It started off pretty lighthearted, but it gets serious towards the end. The shift in tone worked really well and I enjoyed all the smaller ‘books’ in this.
In Another World
The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander may be aimed at slightly younger kids, but it’s a fantastic series that charts the growth of Taran from Assistant Pig Keeper to a true hero. I actually only read this last year – until then, I didn’t even know the movie was based on books! Actual series is five books long but I’m just putting the covers of the first two books here
Back on Earth
I know this technically doesn’t count because it’s not actually set on earth, but while I was reading The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu, I just saw the entire thing taking place in Ancient China. The huge influence of The Romance of the Three Kingdoms on this book means that I can picture this as a historical Chinese drama very, very easily. And that’s why I thought of this book once I read the prompt.
This was really fun! Thanks again, Brittany, for tagging me! In turn, I’d like to tag The Orangutan Librarian, Literary Feline (if this is something that appeals to them), and whoever else would like to do this – I’m always up for more fantasy recommendations!
Yay! I’m honored to be the first person to tag you <3 Thanks for doing the tag! Uprooted is the best <3
It is such a good book!! I have to find time to read Spinning Silver soon!
