What would you do if you found out that your father was a serial killer?
And how would you respond when, twenty years later, young girls start to go missing again?
A Flicker in the Dark is an exciting thriller that covers just that. When Chloe was twelve, girls started to go missing in her home town. After six were missing, her father was arrested for their murders. Now, twenty years later, Chloe is a psychologist with a loving fiancé. All seems well, but when young girls once again start to go missing, Chloe cannot help but connect the dots and she fears that another monster is on the loose.
I picked up this book because I needed something light and that I could finish quickly, but even I didn’t expect to devour the whole book in a morning. Chloe is an interesting character – someone who, despite her training – has not yet let go of her past. She’s aware that she copes in unhealthy ways, but she can’t just take that step back. She’s an unreliable narrator trying to be reliable and the reason why I stopped being able to put the book down once she started investigating.
This book brought me on a roller-coaster ride! I thought I would be able to guess what happened because the starting does seem kinda cliched, but it turns out I was fooled. I won’t spoil the book, but I have to say that Chloe is an unreliable narrator in the best way – she fears that she’s misreading things so I wanted to believe her, but each revelation about her past just had me questioning things more and more.
Character-wise, I gotta say that Chloe feels like the main and only character. There are other significant characters, like her fiancé Daniel and her brother Cooper, but I felt that she was the most realistic of them all. I suppose it’s because we see everything through Chloe’s eyes, so I never really made a connection with the others because Chloe was already on the edge of spiralling.
Honestly, I really enjoyed this book! I have been feeling like I haven’t been reading much the past week because I’ve been busy at work and this book was a great escape. If you’re curious about the story, I suggest you start and see if you like Chloe – if you do, then you’ll have an exciting time with A Flicker in the Dark.

This sounds interesting and I’m already curious to know who is behind the murder and what happened to her father if he was innocent.
It’s an interesting story/roller coaster ride, I would definitely encourage you to give it a go (:
