I don’t know if anyone missed my yearly/biannually podcast post, but I missed writing this because I really do like to keep track of how my podcast listening habits have changed over the years. 2022 was a mixed year for podcasts. I had quite a bit of time to listen to podcasts in the first… Read More 2022 in Podcasts
I got this book from Tanvi (@tanvisreadventures on Instagram) at a book swap and I’m so glad I did! Daisy Darker is a mystery-thriller inspired by one of Christie’s mysteries (I won’t say which one because it will be a spoiler). When Daisy Darker and her family visit her grandmother for her 80th birthday, all… Read More Book Review: Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney
One thing that I wanted to do (and surprised myself with how much I wanted to do) in Seoul was to wear hanbok! So one fine day, my boyfriend and I set out to try on Korea’s traditional dress and hopefully visit a museum at the same time. Alas, the museum visit was not to… Read More Wearing Hanbok in Bukchon Hanok Village (and a tea museum?!)
Do you like urban legends? Have you ever played a scary game? I can’t say I’ve tried any of the urban legend games, but I am fascinated by them and how they are used in stories. So when I heard about The Midnight Man, a thriller based around a (fictional) urban legend, I was intrigued.… Read More Book Review: The Midnight Man by Caroline Mitchell
I had pretty much forgotten why I had this book on my TBR list but I needed a few more books to read and this was available. Turns out, I was fooled by the subtitle “A book of Storytelling” because this is really a book about biographies and people. Facts and Fiction is a collection… Read More Book Review: Facts and Fiction by Michael Holroyd
I read this the day I visited Gyeongbokgung palace, formerly the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty. I had a very interesting time listening to the tour guide and I was quite struck by the fact that something I learnt in the tour – that the King is always depicted with certain symbols, such… Read More Book Review: The Red Palace by June Hur
Happy New Year my friends! If you’ve tried to access this blog for the last few days, you’d have noticed that the blog was done. Not because I wanted it to be inaccessible, but because I’ve somehow exceeded my bandwidth limit. Given that 99% of websites use less than 5GB of bandwidth a month, and… Read More Back for 2023!
I really like quirky books, and so something that’s described as “a circular stroll through the hidden connections of the English Language” is definitely going to appeal to me. But first, let’s talk about what the book is not: What this book is: an exploration of the origin of words and how two seemingly unrelated… Read More Book Review: The Etymologicon by Mark Forsyth
Let’s celebrate the Christmas season with a book review! I generally really enjoy Christie, so I jumped at the chance to borrow this Christmas-themed collection from her! The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding consists of 6 short stories, 5 about Poirot and 1 about Miss Marple. Since there aren’t that many stories, I’ll just give… Read More Book Review: The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding by Agatha Christie
I was in Seoul recently, and since I had some free time, my boyfriend and I decided to visit the Beautiful Tea Museum! I saw “we decided” but really, I am the tea addict here and he was happy to accompany me there. I heard about Teastory Beautiful Tea Museum from a friend on Instagram!… Read More Visiting Teastory Beautiful Tea Museum in Seoul
