I found The Wife Stalker to be an amazing thriller, so I looked up the author and I realised that I’ve been hearing about The Last Mrs Parrish as well. Since I had such a good reading experience with The Wife Stalker, I immediately placed a hold on The Last Mrs Parrish.
The Last Mrs Parrish starts with Amber scheming to take over the life of Daphne Parrish. Daphne is rich and beautiful, and her husband is charming as well. What Amber wants is Daphne’s life. So she worms her way into the family and slowly works her way into make Daphne the last Mrs Parrish.
As with The Wife Stalker, there’s a pretty big twist to The Last Mrs Parrish that I’m not going to spoil for you. The main difference is that in this book, the twist comes fairly early on – about the half way mark, actually. There were hints about the twist leading up to it, but although I was still captivated by the second half of the book, I found the pacing to be a little slower by virtue of the most exciting development happen pretty early on. Plus, there was quite a bit of recap, although I did enjoy seeing the same things happen from a different perspective.
And this is pretty minor, but I found it an interesting coincidence that the children in both books are similar. There are two siblings – the older one is quieter and easier to handle, while the younger one is more of a brat. The children are interesting in either case, but this similarity had me comparing both books the whole way through.
Ultimately, while I really enjoyed this twisty thriller, I think I enjoyed The Wife Stalker much better than The Last Mrs. Parish. The twist there was more impactful for me, but that’s probably because I read it first. If you enjoy thrillers that will hook you in and take you for a ride, definitely check this out.
